Winner of the annual Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition, LOT’s first large-scale public installation in New York City is an arched design which allows passersby to relax in hammocks, look up and enjoy some of New York’s skyline such as the Flatiron and Woolwich buildings and Met Life Tower.
LOT directors Eleni Petaloti and Leonidas Trampoukis designed the installation to change people’s viewpoint of the city. The arches of the structure in white powder-coated steel tubes support hammocks hanging under their eaves that invite New Yorkers to pause from their hectic schedule and enjoy the surrounding views, engaging with the eminent surroundng architecture. The structure is illuminated via LED lights by night, creating a distinct landmark.
The temporary installation, part of a series of public events over the winter months, will remain at the North Flatiron Public Plaza at Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street, until the end of January 2017.
