JOI-Design’s extensive restoration of the Hotel Reichshof Hamburg CURIO Collection by Hilton bridges the building’s original Empire and Art Deco aesthetics with modern comforts and local cultural references to reinstate the splendour of this beloved but worn city landmark, the first Curio brand in Europe.
The listed building’s beautifully preserved Art Deco marble columns, timber panelling and brass detailing were sympathetically restored whilst infrastructure and technology were discreetly modernised for the future.
The lobby’s reconfiguration celebrates the impressive grandeur of its considerable length and height with an optimised spatial arrangement that increases efficiency and enhances guest comfort and ease of navigation. Restoration works to the restaurant’s double-height space were implemented with a lightness of touch to maintain extraordinarily well-preserved features such as the finely crafted satin timber panelling and the dramatically veined marble, copper and gold illuminated columns.
Reducing the room count from 300 to 278 guestrooms, six junior suites and three one-bedroom suites resulted in a greater sense of spaciousness. Flooded with light, the elegantly proportioned rooms were refreshed with subtle, taupe coloured Art Deco schemes.
